Island Magazine has partnered with the Festival of Voices and MONA to present Angel Story, a one-night-only event of heavenly tales that unlocks the power of language and the beauty of words. I’m happy to announce as alluded to last week that my short story, “Please Look After This Angel,” is one of the three finalists selected to be “performed by Moira Smiley and VOCO at a unique ephemeral experience at MONA that will live on in your memory far beyond the last word.”

Also, publication in Island Magazine, which is a new and amazing thing for me!

What: Angel Story

Where: Nolan Room, MONA

When: 8pm Wednesday 11 July

They are expecting the event to sell out fast, so get going to secure your ticket if you’re Hobart-based and interested in coming along! [Tickets: $38 + booking fee? via Centertainment]

Wow! That’s fantastic Tansy, I really want to come along to this! Well done.
I like that David Walsh has an interest in fantasy – it’s like knowing a distant cousin is running one of the most important galleries in the southern hemisphere. :D

It would be great to see you there, Liz! I’ve been meaning to come by the museum again but life has swept me by. Sounds like it will be an entertaining night, in any case.

Not sure if Walsh specifically has an interest in fantasy – but certainly he seems happy to support the arts in a general sense, which is pretty cool. Last time they did this it was ghost stories apparently – both that and ‘angels’ have I think have mainstream crossover appeal. I don’t expect them to be doing sword and sorcery any time soon, but would be glad to be proved wrong. :D

The sword and sorcery really not so much, I’ll grant you, but any one who stocks Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean (as I recall) in the bookshop along with pvc corsetry is wearing their geek/goth cred pretty much on their sleeve. So perhaps I should say it’s more like having a geeky distant cousin running a Very Important Gallery. ;)
