Australia Day Book Giveaway Hop: Love and Romanpunk
January 25th, 2013 at 12:00Welcome to the Australia Day Giveaway Hop!
From January 25th to 28th, over fifty book and writing blogs will be giving away books by Aussie writers.
Head on over to our host Book’d Out to check out the list of links to participating sites and bloggers, and maybe find a few great book blogs while you’re doing it!
Meanwhile, here is my contest:
WIN A COPY OF LOVE AND ROMANPUNK!
This collection of stories about Roman superheroes, monsters, dead empresses and lovelorn lamia was published by Twelfth Planet Press in 2011 and includes the multi-award-winning story “The Patrician” as well as several others in the same universe (or as I like to call it, the Agrippinaverse).
While the ebook is still very much for sale (notably at Wizard Tower Books), the print version has sold out and is currently unavailable, making my dwindling pile of author copies a rare resource.
To Enter: comment here on this post, email me at tansyrr @gmail.com or tweet me at @tansyrr to let me know your Favourite Monster of All Time. I’ll put all the entries into a hat for one of my very random daughters to select a winner.
Entries close at midnight (AEST) on Monday 28th January 2013 and I will announce the winner within 7 days. Anyone can enter, worldwide.

Frankenstein is probably the best monster.

Do eldritch gods count? If so, Cthulu is the penultimate monster for me. Random fact, did you know Lovecraft himself described the way one is supposed to pronounce
Cthulu is as if it is two syllables being coughed out.
(I also emailed this so no need to count this as a second entry, just wanted to share my Cthulu fact)
Also, love Shellyrae’s choice of Cookie Monster, wish I’d thought of it

I didn’t realise Love and Romanpunk was sold out. I should go and check if the other Twelve Planet books I highlighted in the giveaway post are sold out too!
No need to enter me into the giveaway as I have already read and loved this book!

Cthulhu! Devourer of worlds!!!

I’d say that the Alien (Xenomorph) from the Alien series of movies is the best monster. The first movie scared the crap out of me, but the second one kicks ass.

When I was little, my favorite monster was Grover (specifically, Super-Grover). Now I’m not sure I have one. Maybe the Jabberwocky? Mostly ’cause I’m a big fan of nonsense words.

Hi Tansy
My favourite monster? It’s Australia Day. It has to be the bunyip!
Happy Australia Day!
(and pls don’t add me to the draw. I have a copy of Love & Romanpunk)

My favourite monster of all time would have to be my Little Miss when she is tired and grumpy and things don’t go her way.

Well, as long as it’s ‘favourite’, not scariest…It’s a close run with the Autons, but I do have very fond memories of the man-eating alien plants from season one of Lost in Space. Flapping fronds and whoo whoo noises are so much more convincing in black and white! I quite like the idea of plants taking over the world, though that’s not something I’ll be telling the more ferocious bougainvilleas of my acquaintance.
Obviously the Daleks are more magnificent, but they are not monsters, and so don’t count. Thanks for running the giveaway, this is fun!

Oh, this sounds like such a cool book!
My favourite monster of all time is one invented by Seanan McGuire, called a Madhura – they aren’t not very monstrous, but they do love sweet things, as do I.
January 27th, 2013 at 12:50 pm
Catherine, I wanted to pick one of Seanan McGuire’s monsters, too

I’m kind of drawn to the classic Hollywood vampire Count Dracula. Just so old world.

My favorite monster would also be Dracula. He was a pretty classy one, lol.
Thank you very much! I`m in love with this giveaway!
I`m from Europe and I`m non-native English speaker; there is not a very big choice of books in English here (except online shops) and they`re usually from American and British writers so this is a very beautiful opportunity to get to know the Australian writers
Thanks!

Sully, “Monsters, Inc.” for knowing that laughter is more powerful than fear.
