Bookitude
November 25th, 2009 at 19:12Funnily enough, the two things that have gone by the wayside during NaNoWriMo have been quilting and reading. My podcast-listening, in the mean time has gone through the roof…
But, yes. Reading. Part of being an early-adopter in fiction is getting to read lovely, lovely books before everyone else does. Sadly I’ve got to the point where buying said lovely, lovely books doesn’t translate to reading them. My to read shelf is about to collapse! So many books that I am SO keen to read… and oh yes, I’ve only read 105 books this year so far. To feel like I haven’t been neglecting that side, I like to average 10 a month. Fifteen to go!
To get me fired up, then, here are the most-coveted recent releases on my To Read shelf that I really want to get to before the end of the year:
Ash, Malinda Lo
Going Bovine, Libba Bray
Leviathan, Scott Westerfeld
Boneshaker, Cherie Priest
Derby Girl, Shauna Cross
Front & Center, Catherine Gilbert Murdoch
Sharp Shooter, Marianne Delacourt
Sense & Sensibility & Seamonsters
Unseen Academicals, Terry Pratchett (this is the only one not currently in my possession but it will be before the New Year, oh yes, cackles to self…)
And from the not so recent release but still desperately want to get read part of the shelf:
Tiny Deaths, Robert Shearman
Seven for a Secret, Elizabeth Bear
Rapunzel’s Revenge, Shannon Hale
That’s enough to be getting on with, really. What’s at the top of your To Read pile?

For me, it’s Jeff Vandermeer’s Finch, and Steven Amsterdam’s Things we didn’t see coming
And Boneshaker, definitely Boneshaker that looks fab!
You’ll love Sharp Shooter.
And I’m about to start Mirror Space. Marianne just keeps getting better, I reckon.

Of course, I can’t imagine a time when I’ll actually have time to read all of these things.

Ahh but as someone wise said… somewhere, today, we can’t just write our brains out, we need to read too. Keeps the brain pointed in all the right directions.

So true. It is the reading that feeds the writing, and it’s why I wanted to write in the first place.

Yah, we really have to make time for it. Heh though at least at Avid Reader you are surrounded *by* books which is almost the same thing…
