New episode is up a day early! Get it here.

In which, the Hugo host debacle online conversation became a many-tentacled AI that wants to steal our souls, and ladies are cranky.

Speaking of Cranky Ladies – check out Tansy and Tehani’s crowdfunding campaign.

News In Depth: The Hugos v. Jonathan Ross, Safe Spaces & Online Discussions

Foz Meadows laying out the original drama in her usual inimitable style.

Cheryl on the arguments for & against Jonathan Ross as host as particularly on the importance of Intersectionality – how to be a good ally, and why you LISTEN to why people are upset, even if it’s inconvenient to you or your community.

The Chairs of LonCon apologise for the situation – weirdly, this graceful and thorough acknowledgement of their responsibility for how the chain of events went is often not being mentioned in coverage of the discussion.

UPDATE, PLEASE READ:

The downside of recording several days ahead of broadcast is that sometimes the conversation we are contributing to moves on without us – in particular with the “Hugos and Jonathan Ross” conversation we recorded on Wednesday night there has been some serious reframing of the narrative, some of it highly gendered.

You’ll certainly get reviews of new Doctor Who episodes (whenever they finally air), but in addition to that, we’ve got a whole new theme to cover! We hope you’re even half as excited about it as we are.

It strikes me that we’re filled with hope. I suppose that’s right and proper for the beginning of a new year and a new venture. So in that vein, we hope you’ll join us!

Verity Episode 32: Doctor Stew is Required

Sunday, January 5th, 2014

VerityEpisode32-300It’s official. 2013 is over, and so is the tenure of Matt Smith as the Doctor. Once again, join ALL the Verities: Deb, Erika, Katrina, Liz, Lynne, and Tansy, as we discuss Matt’s final episode. It should come as no surprise that we disagree on whether this was a good and worthy sendoff for such a fine Doctor. Who loved it? Who didn’t? And why? Listen and see!

This week we have our first pre-release erratum! Tansy’s daughter Raeli wanted her to tell everyone that she got The Abominable Snowmen Target novelisation, & the one Tansy is reading to Jemima is The Ice Warriors. This will make sense to you after you’ve listened to what’s caught Tansy’s attention in Doctor Who this week.
